Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like we are pressured to pick a single hobby to stick with and make our “thing.” While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with finding something special that you just can’t get enough of, I think sometimes we under-appreciate the unique benefits of being a multi-passionate creative. So today I am here to point out what some of those benefits are and, hopefully, help you feel more at peace with being your multi-passionate self.

Allows You to Be More Authentic
The very first benefit of being a multi-passionate creative is that it allows you to be more authentic and true to yourself. You shouldn’t feel like you need to ignore some of your interests in favor of others. Sure, you may find as time goes on that you naturally gravitate to some creative activities more than others and that’s ok. But you want that to be a genuine and natural progression – not something you feel forced into.
Generates Inspiration

Another benefit of being a multi-passionate creative is that by exploring different creative activities and mediums, you’ll generate inspiration for yourself. For example, you may crochet a sweater and then think of a beautiful pair of earrings you could make that would go with it. One project can inspire another which can inspire another… you get it. I find that I often come across creative inspiration while doing something creative. It’s a self-perpetuating process. Pretty awesome, if you ask me.
Fosters and Satiates Curiosity
I am someone who sees a new creative hobby, thinks it’s super cool, and immediately wants to try it. I’m guessing since you are reading this post, there’s a chance you are too. I don’t know about you, but my brain can get a little fixated on this at times. Not allowing myself to explore different creative interests of mine is a pretty great way to make myself frustrated, disappointed, and lacking inspiration. Allowing myself to pursue those interests, on the other hand, allows me to satisfy that curiosity.
It also can foster curiosity at the same time. There have been quite a few times I’ve been working on a creative project and found myself wondering “what if I did xyz?” or “how would it work if I applied this to x activity?” Exploring different creative hobbies can be a great way to become more curious about things.
Helps Build Creative Confidence

One of my other favorite benefits of being a multi-passionate creative is that it can truly help you build your creative confidence.
I hear so many people say that they’re “not an artist” or “not creative.” I have a lot of thoughts on these types of comments but, in short, I think this kind of thinking is complete bullshit.
One of the things that I think stops a lot of people from exploring and truly embracing their creativity is a lack of confidence that they’re capable of it. By allowing yourself to have multiple creative hobbies, it can really build your confidence when you finish projects, see your skills grow, and realize holy shit, I can actually do this stuff.
Of course, you’ll have to start off as a single-passionate creative first, but you’ll get there in no time.
Find and Explore Strengths and Weaknesses
The fifth benefit I want to talk about is that being a creative Jack-of-all-trades can help you find what your strengths and weaknesses are. I think part of the reason so many people jump to the “I’m not creative” belief is that they aren’t giving themselves enough time to find their creative strengths.
You will have weaknesses – that is just a truth of life (if a disappointing one). If you give up as soon as you encounter something that isn’t a strength of yours, you’re seriously limiting yourself from actually finding your strengths. By exploring different types of creativity, you’re more likely to find those strengths.
By the way, it’s ok to still enjoy things you aren’t immediately good at. In fact, I encourage it! I have a post about how creativity can be used to help you get over perfectionism which goes more into this but remember – creativity is a skill and that means it can be learned.
Unique Perspectives and Techniques Lead to Creative Innovation

This point kind of relates to my previous point about how being a multi-passionate creative can create inspiration.
When you are someone who engages in different types of creative activities, you’re obviously going to come across different techniques, styles, mediums, etc. You’ll create a very unique perspective that is entirely yours and is, in part, shaped by these different activities you engage in.
This can lead to some really interesting creative innovation. You may be inspired to use a medium that isn’t typically used in a certain creative hobby of yours. Or maybe you’ll be able to apply skills from one creative passion to solve a problem people struggle with in another.
People who engage with a variety of creative hobbies are more likely to have a more varied personal creative style and that is simply priceless when it comes to the creative world!
Creativity and Joy Become a Lifestyle
Last, but certainly not least, is my personal favorites of the benefits of being a multi-passionate creative: creativity and the joy it creates become a lifestyle.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that I think just about everyone benefits from regularly engaging with their creativity. After all, I do kinda have an entire blog dedicated to the idea. I’ve talked about some of the benefits of being creative before, including some benefits of crochet that are specific to my fellow neurodivergent friends, but above all, I think creativity inherently increases our joy.
If we are engaging with our creativity frequently and in different ways, we develop a creative lifestyle and, in turn, a joyful lifestyle. And if you ask me, having a life filled with joy is what it’s all about!!

Key Takeaways
- Being multi-passionate lets you show up as your real self, you don’t have to squeeze into one “thing.”
- Trying different hobbies creates built-in inspiration since one project often sparks the next.
- Having multiple creative avenues to explore keeps your curiosity happy, which means less frustration and more motivation.
- Finishing a mix of projects builds creative confidence because you see proof you can learn different things.
- You find your strengths faster (and you stop quitting just because something feels hard at first).
- Mixing mediums and skills gives you a unique style and that often leads to fresh ideas.
- Over time, creativity becomes a habit, and the joy that comes with it starts to feel like a lifestyle.
These are 7 of the many benefits of being a multi-passionate creative. Next time someone tries to make you feel silly for having a bunch of creative hobbies instead of picking one, first tell them to shut up and mind their business and then send them this post. They should be the ones feeling silly, not you!
